But the nurse selfies are a SERIOUS shock to me. Most facilities don’t allow personal cells (the nurses carry hospital phones with them). I stopped working the floor two years ago, but I can’t believe they would change that policy. And the issue was patient privacy and the potential for liability. And yes, a great many nurses are catatonically stupid…especially the new ones (might as well just take a bum off the street as a new nurse these days…no experience whatsoever, and a great deal of their learning was from online cram and dump classes). Careful of the antibiotics, too…with the hospital protonix prophylaxis and antibiotics the chance for getting c diff goes up a lot, so you might want to take probiotics (you can ask for them because they might not give them to you unless you do). Regarding the alpha topic: I agree, for the most part, with Bastiat’s alpha equation regarding respect, sex and I personally believe that there’s less of a disparity between what women want/respect versus what men respect than some seem to think. The missing element in the equation is probably risk. Today, as compared to the past, there are relatively few up close and personal forms of risk on which those types of merit-based judgments are made. Anyone can make their hair spiky (to use the teenaged punk example from Rollo’s link), put on a pair of dark glasses and talk smack to the lady on television from a distance. A person can hang up when their parents call and that isn’t taking much of a risk. Alpha ipso facto implies dominance, which actually requires some sort of risk (no risk=dominance over nothing, which means no dominance). Now, maybe the spiky haired punk has it in him, maybe not…but there is no basis presented on which this judgment could be made. Talking on television and hanging up on his parents doesn’t indicate dominance.
