When I go to Africa, I marvel at how impressive the non-slave-descended Africans often are when compared to the ugliness, dysfunctionality and trashiness of black American / Caribbean cultures. With half the resources black Americans get, there are countries in sub-Saharan Africa which could build empires and do impressive things. Which is even more humiliating to black America. This gives me some limited hope that our own populations, with crime and poverty, can be somehow redeemed. Jews: My dislike of anti-semites comes from exposure to both real-life Jews to a degree not usually afforded to people from my background and the crushing of stereotypes I experienced. And also exposure to the bizarre fantasies and illusions of the anti-semite sector, which are often not based on carefully observed facts or careful reasoning. Islam: My more or less visceral hatred of Islam comes from having learned more about it than most Muslims have, or ever will, and having traveled in the Arab world relatively widely and seen what it’s actually like and how people actually think.
